Radio-Frequency Microneedling Aftercare
Radio-Frequency Microneedling combines two gold-standard technologies to lift, firm, and tighten the skin. Radiofrequency Microneedling uses ultra fine needles to puncture the skin’s surface and deliver radiofrequency energy to the superficial dermis and epidermis, initiating the wound healing response and stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) uses ultrasound waves to generate temperatures of 65°C+ at well-defined depths in the skin causing immediate contraction, tightening, and lifting. The heat zones trigger the skin’s wound healing to naturally lift, firm, and tighten over time.
Pre-Treatment Advice
- The area to be treated should be free from make-up, perfume, deodorant, and body or face creams.
- There should be no active or fake tan in the area to be treated. Use of sunbeds or prolonged exposure to sunlight is not advised in the week prior to treatment and Lynton Light Protect Daily Defence SPF50 or an SPF30+ must be used on the area between treatments.
- Stop using any acid/chemical-based products on the area for one week prior to treatments (e.g. glycolic/salicylic acid and retinols). If you are using topical retinoids or steroids in the area to be treated, please stop applying them to the treatment area for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.
- Avoid having any type of exfoliation treatment such as AHA peels/microdermabrasion/waxing for 2 weeks prior to the treatment.
- A medical history is taken at consultation, but we rely on you to inform us of any changes to this. We need to know of any medication you are taking including those bought from a chemist or herbalist.
- Inform your practitioner if you have a history or flare up of cold sores as this can impair treatment. Prophylactic anti-viral medication may be taken if necessary.
- If topical anaesthetic is to be used, please apply 30-45 minutes before your appointment.
- If you have had PDO threads in the treatment area, you must wait a minimum of six months before having treatment with Radio-Frequency Microneedling.
- Injectables should be avoided for four weeks pre and post treatment.
Post-Treatment Advice
- The treated area can be red or pink in colour after the treatment and this may last for a few hours. It will also feel warm to the touch during this time.
- Bruising may occasionally occur after treatment in delicate areas, especially around the eyes. This can last up to 5 days but should resolve with no long-term effects.
- Use Lynton Light Protect Daily Defence SPF50 or an SPF30+ to protect the area from sunlight as much as possible between treatments and for at least one month after treatment ends.
- Make-up can be applied after several hours if the skin is not sore or broken. However, we advise caution if the area is feeling sensitive. Remove make-up carefully as rubbing the skin can cause irritation or infection. If the skin at the treatment area becomes broken, then make-up should be avoided.
- Immediately after treatment, contraction of collagen fibres improves the skin’s elasticity, so your skin will appear firmer. This can be temporary as the production of new collagen takes time, and best results are seen after your course of treatments (continuing for 3 to 6 months after the end of your course).
- Care should be taken to avoid trauma to the treated area for 4 or 5 days after treatment. Avoid strenuous activities, sauna and steam, excessively hot baths, massaging, etc., and avoid wearing tight clothing on the treated area.
- Waxing, tweezing, and depilatory creams can be resumed 7 days post treatment.
- A non-exfoliating cleanser and light moisturizer can be used on the day of treatment and for 1-2 days after. By around day 3, normal skin routine can be resumed; however, avoid any type of exfoliation including the use of glycolics/acid/chemical-based products for at least 7 days post treatment.
- Further laser treatment, chemical peels, Botox/Dermal fillers can be resumed 2 weeks post treatment.
- Blistering is very unusual, but if it does occur, contact the clinic immediately for further advice. Keep the area clean and dry and allow to heal naturally. Do not use any lotions or creams on open skin as this may increase the risk of infection. Grazing or flaking can sometimes occur following treatment, so it’s important you DO NOT pick grazes or blisters – as this may increase the chance of a scar occurring. Once the skin has healed, a high protection sunscreen should be used daily for 12 months to prevent pigmentation changes to the skin.
