Spongilla Spicules Treatment Information and Consent

Introduction

Spongilla spicules are an effective modality of skin resurfacing. They provide a natural alternative approach to microdermabrasion and dermabrasion, chemical peels (glycolic acid, Jessner’s, phenol and trichloroacetic acid peels), CO laser resurfacing and Erbium laser peels to correct visual facial defects such as hyperpigmentation of various etiology, fine wrinkles, sun damage, superficial scars, comedones, enlarged pores, and facial rejuvenation.

Upon massaging Spongilla spicules into the skin, the spicules mechanically separate the epidermal layers and reduce keratinocyte cohesion, thereby increasing stratum corneum sloughing and sebum plug and loose keratinocyte removal.

Treatment may consist of a course of multiple treatments set approximately 2 weeks apart and further sessions may be required to achieve results.

During your treatment you may experience some discomfort and transient redness or swelling. Improvements may take several weeks. We can give no guarantee that you will see a positive outcome. Adherence to the skincare regime may improve results. Please ask your practitioner for more details if you so wish.
