Swelling Aftercare
If you experience some swelling in the treated area this can be perfectly normal and only temporary, as long as the swelling is minor.
If you are experiencing anything rapidly worsening, severe or progressive, please contact your practitioner immediately.
Go straight to your local A+E if:
Emergency signs:
- Swelling rapidly worsening over minutes to hours
- Tongue, throat, or facial swelling
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Any unusual or abnormal symptoms
What to expect after experiencing swelling on the day?
- Please keep in contact with your practitioner multiple times per day to ensure you are healing.
- Swelling should subside in 24 hours to 14 days depending on your treatment:
- For a dissolver treatment: 24 hours/48 hours
- For a dermal filler treatment: up to 7-14 days
- It may feel throbbing, tender or achy as it heals.
Self-care
- Take antihistamines daily (after guided advice from your practitioner).
- Take ibuprofen daily (after guided advice from your practitioner).
- Rest the area. Rest will help your body heal.
- Apply ice as directed. Ice helps reduce swelling and aid healing.
- Avoid alcohol for 48 hours.
- Normal swelling after a treatment can increase over 48 hours before starting to reduce.
- The swelling should be much reduced after 7 days and healed completely in 14 days.
- Avoid extremes of heat – sunbeds, saunas, holidays for 14 days.
Contact your practitioner if:
- You have questions or concerns.
- You have new or worsening pain, or pain that does not get better.
- If swelling is not reduced in 14 days.
